She lived in thirty-four countries before she answered it. A small flat in Lisbon with a balcony that caught the afternoon. A house in Marrakech where every wall told a layered story. A studio in Tokyo that taught her the discipline of empty space. A villa on the Mediterranean where the line between inside and outside dissolved.
Each home left a fingerprint. Each city offered a different answer to the same question. By the time she returned to Cape Town to settle, she carried something that no design school can teach: a fluency in styles that have been lived in, not just admired in books.
